Edward Dentinger Hoch, nato a Rochester il 22 febbraio 1930 e morto il 17 gennaio 2008, è stato uno scrittore americano di romanzi gialli e di fantascienza.

Incominciò a cominciato a scrivere negli anni '50, il suo primo racconto, Village of the Dead, apparve infatti nel 1955 in Famous Detective Stories, seguita da altre storie in The Saint Mystery Magazine.

Il suo primo lavoro di fantascienza fu invece Co-Incidence firmato Irwin Booth e pubblicato da The Science Fiction Stories nel 1968, quello di Irwin Booth non fu l'unico pseudonimo utilizzato da Hoch che firmò molti dei suoi articoli e dei suoi racconti usando gli pseudonimi di Stephen Dentinger, R.L. Stevens, Pat McMahon, Anthony Circus, R.E. Porter, Mr. X e persino il nome collettivo Ellery Queen.
