Note biografiche e bibliografia di Rog Phillips
Roger Phillip Graham, nato a Spokane nello stato di Washington il 20 febbraio 1909 e morto il 2 marzo 1966 a San Francisco in California, è stato uno scrittore americano di fantascienza. Cresciuto da bambino durante la Grande Depressione, si trovò spesso a cambiare città dal momento che suo padre, un veterano della guerra ispano-americana, trasferì frequentemente la sua famiglia in giro per il paese in cerca di lavoro ma, questi spostamenti, nel 1931 Rog si laureò a Spokane alla Gonzaga University. Inizialmente fece molti lavori, tecnico nelle centrali elettriche fino all'inizio della seconda guerra mondiale, saldatore in un cantiere navale per tutta la durata del conflitto, scaricatore di porto e altro ancora, prima di diventare scrittore a tempo pieno. |  |
Il suo primo racconto fu Let Freedom Ring! apaprso nel dicembre 1945 su Amazing Stories, che, insieme alla rivista gemella Fantastic Adventures, rimase il suo mercato più regolare dove pubblicò spesso come Rog Phillips, anche se in carriera utilizzò svariati pseudonimi tra i quali: Drew Ames, Clinton Ames, Robert Arnette, Franklin Bahl, Alexander Blade, Craig Browning, Gregg Conrad, P. F. Costello, Roger Philip Graham, Roger Graham, Roger P. Graham, Sanandana Kumara, Charles Lee, Milton Mann, Inez McGowan, Rog Philips, Melva Rogers, Chester Ruppert, William Carter Sawtelle, A. R. Steber, Mallory Storm, Gerald Vance, John Wiley e Peter Worth.
Il suo racconto più noto fu The Yellow Pill, apparso nell'ottobre del 1958 sulla rivista Astounding, ma nello stesso anno scrisse Rat in the Skull, racconto che ricevette una nomination al Premio Hugo l'anno successivo.
I suoi romanzi più famosi furono Time Trap del 1949, Worlds Within del 1950, World of If del 1951 e The Involuntary Immortals del dicembre 1949 mentre in So Shall Ye Reap, del 1947 ma pubblicato postumo nel 2011, anticipò un possibile olocausto nucleare nell'anno 2196 durante il quale il governo americano creò diversi siti sotterranei per consentire la sopravvivenza a pochi cittadini eletti.
