Note biografiche e bibliografia di D.W. Hall
Desmond Winter Hall, nato a Sydney il 15 marzo 1911 e morto a New York il 2 novembre 1992 è stato un curatore editoriale e uno scrittore americano di fantascienza. Di origine australiana, emigrò negli Stati Uniti da adolescente e inizio a lavorare in qualità di assistente curatore di Harry Bates per la rivista Astounding Stories of Super Science dal 19030 al 1933. Quando F. Orlin Tremain subentrò a Bates, Hall continuò come vicedirettore per circa un anno prima di essere promosso alla direzione della rivista Mademoiselle, anche se indiscrezioni affermarono che di fatto fu lui a dirigere Astounding e non Tremain. |  |
La collaborazione con Bates si concretizzò anche nella scrittura: con gli pseudonimi H.G. Winter e Anthony Gilmore scrissero la serie Hawk Carse, composta da cinque racconti che vennero successivamente raccolti nel 1952 in Space Hawk: The Greatest of Interplanetary Adventurers, e la serie Seed of the Arctic Ice, composta invece da due soli racconti.
Firmò anche alcuni racconti a suo nome come Werewolves of War e Raiders Invisible nel 1931 o firmandoli con lo pseudonimo Ainslee Jenkins come Men of Steel nel 1930 e In the Shadow of the Tii nel 1933.
