E. Lily Yu è una poetessa e una scrittrice americana di fantasy e di fantascienza. Ha iniziato a pubblicare fantascienza con il racconto The Transfiguration of Maria Luisa Ortega apparso sulla rivista letteraria The Kenyon Review nell'estate del 2010, ed è diventata famosa in tutto il mondo grazie al racconto Cartographer Wasps and Anarchist Bees che, dopo la sua pubblicazione nell’aprile 2011 sulla rivista Clarkesworld, ha ricevuto una nomination a tutti i principali premi di fantascienza dell’anno a livello mondiale e le è valso il Campbell Award come miglior scrittrice esordiente oltre ad essere inserito nell'antologia The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year: Volume Six curata da Jonathan Strahan e Rich Horton.

The Urashima Effect, pubblicato da Clarkesworld Magazine nel giugno 2013 ha ricevuto una nomination al Premio Sturgeon 2014, e nello stesso anno Strahan e Horton l'hanno nuovamente inclusa in The Best Science Fiction & Fantasy of the Year: Volume Eight.

Il suo primo romanzo, On Fragile Waves, è stato pubblicato nel febbraio 2021 da Erewhon Books, ha ricevuto una nomination al Crawford Award 2022 ed è stato presentato dall'International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts.

E' anche una poetessa esperta e la sua prima poesia pubblicata nel 2008, What Comes After Rain, ha ricevuto una menzione d'onore in Ellen Datlow's Year's Best.
