Charles Platt, nato a Londra il 26 aprile 1945, è un giornalista, programmatore di computer e scrittore di fantascienza inglese naturalizzato statunitense. Nipote di Robert Platt, barone Platt di Grindleford, si è trasferito negli Stati Uniti nel 1970 diventando cittadino americano. Platt è l'autore di 41 libri di narrativa e saggistica in particolare sui temi della tecnologia informatica e della crionica, oltre a insegnare e lavorare in questi campi. ha scritto una varietà di romanzi di fantascienza, tra cui Garbage World del 1967, Free Zone del 1989, Protektor del 1996 e due libri nell'universo Chthon di Piers Anthony, intitolati Plasm e Soma.

Ha firmato le sue opere utilizzando diversi pseudonimi: Aston Cantwell, Cousin Clara, Robert Clarke (III), Charley Platt, Charlotte Prentiss, Helen Purcell, Gabby Snitch, Blakely St. James.

Ha smesso di scrivere fantascienza dopo il 1990.
