Naomi Mary Margaret Haldane Mitchison, nata a Edimburgo il 1° novembre 1897 e morta a Carradale in Scozia l'11 gennaio 1999, è stata una poetessa, saggista e scrittrice inglese di fantascienza. Figlia dello scienziato John Scott Haldane, Naomi seguì suo fratello alla Oxford Preparatory School per poi entrare nella Society of Oxford Home Students per seguire un corso di laurea in scienze. Prima di laurearsi scelse di diventare infermiera, perché era scoppiata la prima guerra mondiale e, dopo aver completato un corso di primo soccorso e infermieristica domiciliare nel 1915, si unì a un distaccamento di volontarie presso il St Thomas's Hospital di Londra.

Naomi fu una scrittrice prolifica, con più di 90 libri di vari stili e generi. Apprezzata autrice di romanzi storici come The Conquered del 1923, The Corn King and the Spring Queen del 1931, The Bull Calves del 1947 e The Young Alexander the Great del 1960, non disdegnò anche il fantasy con Grame and the Dragon del 1954, la poesia con Cleansing of the Knife del 1979 e le storie per ragazzi.

Ma il romanzo che le dette più fama fu Memoirs of a Spacewoman del 1962 nel quale sono narrate le avventure di una non convenzionale eroina galattica e dei suoi problemi con le intelligenze aliene. Nello stesso genere s'inseriscono Solution Three del 1975 scritto assieme a Susan Merrill Squier, e una serie di racconti.
