David D. Levine, nato il 21 febbraio 1961 a Minneapolis nello stato del Minnesota, è uno scrittore americano di fantascienza. Dopo aver studiato a St. Louis nel Missouri, ha iniziato come scrittore di articoli tecnici. Amante della fantascienza, ha iniziato a pubblicare SF nel 1996 con il racconto 1992 The Worldcon That Wasn't apparso nell'antologia curata da Mike Resnick Alternate Worldcons and Again, Alternate Worldcons. Successivamente ha vinto premio James White con il racconto Nucleon nel 2001, è stato candidato al premio John W. Campbell 2003 come miglior scrittore esordiente e nel 2006 ha vinto con Tk'Tk'Tk il premio Hugo come miglior racconto breve. |  |
Con i racconti Titanium Mike Saves the Day del 2008 e Damage del 2015 ha ricevuto la nomination al premio Nebula per il miglior racconto breve, ma è con il romanzo Arabella of Mars del 2016 che lo scrittore ha vinto il premio Nebula Andre Norton.
Arabella of Mars è ambientato in un cosmo alternativo nel quale i pianeti che compongono il sistema solare condividono un'unica atmosfera, e la storia inizia in una Gran Bretagna dei primi anni del diciannovesimo secolo. Lo stile della narrazione, che ha un tono da romanzo scientifico e mostra una satira incisiva dei costumi britannici, segue la giovane protagonista femminile attraverso varie avventure, finché non si ritrova a bordo di una nave guidata in direzione di Marte da un automa steampunk.
Suoi racconti sono apparsi sulle più importanti riviste del settore come Asimov's, Analog, Clarkesworld, F&SF, Tor.com, in numerose antologie Year's Best e nella raccolta Space Magic vincitrice nel 2009 del premio Endeavour.
