Note biografiche e bibliografia di John B. Rosenman
John Brown Rosenman, nato a Cleveland nell'Ohio il 16 aprile 1941, è un poeta e uno scrittore americano di genere horror, fantasy e di fantascienza. Dopo aver conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in inglese presso la Kent State University ha lavorato come professore di inglese alla Norfolk State University e ha progettato e tenuto per molti anni corsi su come scrivere fantascienza e fantasy. È stato presidente del consiglio di amministrazione della Horror Writers Association e ha pubblicato circa 350 racconti su riviste come Weird Tales, Aliens di Whitley Strieber, Fangoria, Galaxy, The Age of Wonders e la serie di antologia Hot Blood. |  |
Ha pubblicato circa due dozzine di romanzi pricipalmente d'azione e d'avventura di fantascienza: notevole successo lo deve alla serie Inspector of the Cross e al romanzo Beyond Those Distant Stars, vincitore dell'AllBooks Review Editor's Choice Award.
Tra i racconti più famosi, The Blue of Her Hair, the Gold of Her Eyes del 1999 ha vinto il Preditors and Editors Annual Reader Poll per la categoria Science Fiction.
Lo scrittore nei suoi lavori tratta spesso temi come libertà, libero arbitrio, comfort, autoritarismo, libertà personale ed esplorazione spaziale. Ne è un esempio la serie Dreamfarer, dove in un futuro distopico del pianeta Terra, un secolo dopo che la Terza Guerra Mondiale ha distrutto la maggior parte delle grandi città, immagina che la politica mondiale, i confini nazionali, le preoccupazioni per le aggressioni future e la corsa alla supremazia nel sistema solare permangono ancora.
L'anno è il 2170, novant'anni dopo la Terza Guerra Mondiale. Grazie alle macchine dei sogni, l'umanità è in grado di sfuggire a un'esistenza noiosa attraverso fantasie avventurose e romantiche che sono molto più eccitanti e appaganti della vita ordinaria. Cosa succede a un “Viandante dei sogni” quando, al suo risveglio dopo sette anni, scopre di essere diventato uno dei tre percento dell'umanità immuni a ulteriori stimoli onirici e di dover affrontare un futuro vuoto? Cosa fareste Voi?
Con l'evoluzione dell'intelligenza artificiale, lo scrittore ipotizza che la maggior parte della popolazione mondiale è dormiente e che l'intelligenza artificiale ha ruoli essenziali in un romanzo dove il gergo tecnologico passa in secondo piano lasciando come protagonisti i conflitti sociali e personali e le infinite meraviglie dell'universo.
