Note biografiche e bibliografia di Usman T. Malik
Usman Tanveer Malik, nato a Lahore il 12 ottobre 1981, è un medico e uno scrittore pakistano di fantasy horror e di fantascienza. Il suo primo racconto, The Crimson Storm, è stato pubblicato sul numero 10 della rivista Thirteen Stories nel giugno 2003, mentre l'anno successivo il racconto The Well That Never Ended è stato pubblicato sul numero 23 di Deep Magic. Amante della narrativa breve, ha visto i suoi racconti pubblicati in riviste e libri del calibro di The Apex Book of World SF, Nightmare Magazine, Strange Horizons, Black Static e Tor.com oltre ad essere stati inseriti in varie antologie tra cui The Year's Best Dark Fantasy and Horror, The Years Best YA Speculative Fiction, The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year e The Year's Best Weird Fiction. |  |
Nel 2013 ha frequentato il Clarion West Writers Workshop e l'anno successivo è diventato il primo scrittore pakistano a vincere il Bram Stoker Award per la narrativa breve con il racconto The Vaporization Enthalpy of a Peculiar Pakistani Family che ha anche ricevuto una nomination ai premi Nebula e Locus.
La sua prima raccolta, Midnight Doorways: Fables from Pakistan, è stata pubblicata nel 2021 da Kitab, ha le storie in essa contenute illustrate da nove artisti e designer pakistani e ha vinto il Crawford Award 2022 oltre ad essere stata finalista ai premi Ignyte, World Fantasy e Locus.
In collaborazione con Desi Writers Lounge, ha condotto il primo seminario di scrittura di narrativa speculativa del Pakistan a Lahore nel 2014 ed è inoltre il co-fondatore del Salam Award For Imaginative Fiction, che aspira a trovare e coltivare scrittori di narrativa speculativa di origine pakistana.
Attualmente lavora nel settore sanitario dividendosi tra il Pakistan e gli Stati Uniti, coltiva la poesia sufi e ama suonare la chitarra.
