Gerald Neal Williamson, nato a Indianapolis il 17 aprile 1932 e morto a Noblesville nello stato dell'Indiana l'8 dicembre 2005, è stato un editore, saggista e uno scrittore americano di genere horror e di fantascienza.

Diplomato alla Shortridge High School, studiò giornalismo alla Butler University per poi lavorare come venditore, astrologo e scrivendo racconti a intermittenza.

Nel 1979 pubblicò il suo primo romanzo nel 1979 e ne scrisse altri 31 nei 15 anni successivi ed, essendo stato assieme a Stephen King uno dei più prolifici ed eccellenti scrittori di romanzi horror degli anni Ottanta, nel 2003 ricevette il premio alla carriera dell'Horror Writers Association.

Nel 1987 si dedicò al saggio How to Write Tales of Horror, Fantasy & Science Fiction, volume che con il contributo di altri importanti scrittori racconta i temi della scrittura horror e cita opere di scrittori come Robert Bloch, Lee Prosser, Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, HP Lovecraft, August Derleth, William F. Nolan e Stephen King. .

Per un lungo periodo curò Masques, una popolare serie di antologie che divenne vero trampolino di lancio per scrittori affermati e non.
