Ian McHugh è un professore universitario e uno scrittore australiano di genere fantasy, horror e di fantascienza. Il suo primo racconto, The Alchemical Automaton Blue, è apparso nel 2004 sulla rivista Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine # 15. Nel 2008 il racconto Bitter Dreams ha vinto il primo premio Writers of the Future, nello stesso anno è stato candidato all'Aurealis Award per il miglior racconto horror, mentre ha vinto nel 2009 l'Aurealis Award 2009 per il miglior racconto fantasy con Once a Month, On a Sunday. Oltre ad essere membro della Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild sta lavorando come tutor per corsi di orientamento professionale.
