Sheila Finch - Biografia
Sheila Rosemary Finch, nata a Londra il 20 ottobre 1935, è una poetessa e scrittrice americana di fantasy e di fantascienza. Terminati gli studi al Bishop Otter College (ora Chichester University) ha insegnato per tra il 1956 e il 1957 in una scuola elementare a Hackney, nei sobborghi di Londra. Dopo il matrimonio con Clare Grill Rayner nel 1957 (da cui ha divorziato nel 1980), è emigrata negli Stati Uniti e si è laureata in letteratura inglese presso l'Università dell'Indiana nel 1959. Ha iniziato a scrivere fantascienza nel 1977 e per alcuni dei suoi primi racconti ha utilizzato lo pseudonimo Sheila Finch-Rayner. |

Nel romanzo del 1986 Triad ha coniato il termine xenolinguista per descrivere i linguisti che decodificano le lingue aliene. La parola ha ottenuto un'ampia accettazione nel mondo della fantascienza ed è stata usata per descrivere il personaggio di Uhura nel remake di Star Trek. In seguito ha creato una serie di racconti sulla comunicazione con gli alieni che alla fine è stata consolidata nella raccolta di racconti intitolata The Guild of Xenolinguists pubblicata da Golden Gryphon Press nel 2007.
