James Patrick Kelly - Biografia
James Patrick Kelly, nato a Mineola nello stato di New York l'11 aprile 1951 è uno scrittore americano di fantascienza. Negli anni '80 con l'amico scrittore di fantasy e fantascienza John Kessel ha partecipato a vari dibattiti sull'antagonismo tra Umanismo e Cyberpunk e, pur essendo, umanista ha scritto vari racconti cyberpunk. Ne sono un esempio Solstice del 1985, pubblicato in Mirrorshades di Bruce Sterling, l'antologia che ha contribuito a definire il genere cyberpunk, The Prisoner of Chillon del 1985 e Rat del 1986. Sempre con Kessel ha curato alcune antologie che offrono una carrellata delle ultimissime tendenze SCI-FI, quali lo slipstream e il post-cyberpunk. |

Più volte premiato per le sue opere, attualmente fa parte della facoltà di narrativa popolare per il programma MFA di Stonecoast in scrittura creativa presso l'Università del Southern Maine oltre ad insegnare e a partecipare a laboratori di fantascienza, come il WorkShop Clarion e Sycamore Hill Writer's.
In carriera ha vinto 2 volte il premio Hugo, con i racconti Think Like a Dinosaur nel 1995 e 10^16 to 1 nel 1999, il Nebula Award 2006 con il romanzo del 2005 Burn e, oltre a vincere l'Asimov's Reader Poll e SF Chronicle Award, è arrivato spesso al ballottaggio finale di concorsi come Nebula Award, Poll Award e Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award.
