Rob Chilson è lo pseudonimo di Robert Dean Chilson, nato a Ringwood in Oklahoma il 19 maggio 1945, uno scrittore americano di fantascienza. All'età di sei anni ha deciso di fare lo scrittore e dopo gli studi è stato scoperto da John W. Campbell: la sua prima storia di fantascienza, The Mind Reader, è stata infatti pubblicata dalla rivista Analog nel giugno 1968. Dopo romanzi che hanno riscosso scarso interesse dai lettori, nel 1989 ha pubblicato Men Like Rats, un romanzo di sopravvivenza stile The Men in the Walls di William Tenn e Rounded with Sleep del 1990, dove il protagonista deve sconfiggere il controllo computerizzato di un gioco di ruolo fantasy che domina la Terra, l'autore è riuscito ad ottenere il meritato successo.

Molti dei suoi racconti, alcuni firmati col vero nome, sono stati pubblicati sulla rivista Analog mentre degne di note sono le collaborazioni con William F. Wu.
