George Henry Smith, nato a Vicksburg nello stato del Mississippi il 27 ottobre 1922 e morto a Torrancein California il 22 maggio 1996 è stato uno scrittore americano di fantascienza e di letteratura erotica soft. Laureato alla University of Southern California a Los Angeles, durante la seconda guerra mondiale prestò servizio in marina per poi intraprendere nel 1950 la carriera di scrittore professionista. Il suo primo raccolto fu The Last Spring che venne pubblicato nel 1953, ma furono i racconti The Last Days of Los Angeles del 1959 e In the Imagicon del 1966 che lo fecero conoscere al grande pubblico.

Il successo arrivò poi con la serie di Annwn, incrocio tra fantascienza e fantasy e basata sulle tradizioni di folklore celtico-gallese, ma Smith decise di introdurre una variazione al genere scrivendo, in collaborazione con la moglie M. Jane Deere e firmandoli con lo pseudonimo di M.D. Deere, due romanzi del genere del porno soft, ambientati in un mondo sopravissuto al disastro.

Dopo una lunga pausa lo scrittrice tornò alla fantascienza con il romanzo tecnothriller New York Police Department 2025 sotto lo pseudonimo di Hal Stryker.
