John Frederick Burke, nato a Rye nel Sussex l'8 marzo 1922 e morto il 20 settembre 2011, è stato uno scrittore inglese di romanzi e racconti di genere thriller, horror e fantascienza.

Terminati gli studi alla Holt High School di Liverpool, ora conosciuta come Childwall Academy, prestò servizio nella Royal Air Force, nella Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers e nei Royal Marines durante la seconda guerra mondiale.

Dopo aver lavorato per la casa editrice Museum Press e il gruppo Books for Pleasure, fu direttore delle pubbliche relazioni e pubblicazioni per Shell (1959-1963) e Story Editor per Twentieth Century-Fox (1963-1965) prima di diventare uno scrittore a tempo pieno nel 1966.

Scrisse diverse storie di suspense e thriller psicologici diventando famoso e raggiunse la stessa popolarità con i racconti di fantascienza pubblicati su riviste come New Worlds e New Frontiers.

I suoi primi due romanzi di fantascienza, The Dark Gateway del 1953 e The Echoing Worlds del 1954 trattano entrambi il tema degli universi paralleli; in Pursuit Through Time del 1956 è invece narrato un tentativo di cambiare il corso della storia viaggiando nel tempo nel passato.

Utilizzò numerosi pseudonimi: J.F. Burke, Jonathan Burke, Jonathan George, Kerbu Anthon, Robert Miall, Martin Sands, Owen Burke, Sara Morris, Russ Ames, Roger Rougiere e Joanna Jones.
