Sydney Fowler Wright, nato a Smethwick nel West Midlands il 6 gennaio 1874 e morto a Midhurst nel Sussex il 25 febbraio 1965 è stato uno scrittore inglese di fantascienza. Wright lasciò la scuola a undici anni e trascorse la sua adolescenza studiando letteratura nel tempo libero dal lavoro. Nel 1917 aiutò a fondare la Empire Poetry League e curò il giornale della Lega, Poetry utilizzando la poesia per pubblicare le sue traduzioni dell'Inferno e del Purgatorio di Dante. Wright iniziò a scrivere fantascienza negli anni '20 e il suo primo romanzo, The Amphibians del 1924, è ambientato in un futuro in cui l'umanità è stata sostituita da esseri anfibi.

Il romanzo Deluge del 1928 racconta di un'alluvione che devasta la Gran Bretagna: divenne un successo e fu successivamente adattato in un film di Hollywood con lo stesso titolo. The Island of Captain Sparrow del 1928 fu invece ispirato da L'isola del dottor Moreau di HG Wells e nel romanzo si narra di una razza di uomini bestia simili a satiri perseguitati dagli umani.
