John Charles Wright, nato a Chula Vista in California il 22 ottobre 1961, è uno scrittore americano di fantascienza e fantasy. Ha studiato al St. John's College di Annapolis, nel Maryland, laureandosi nel 1984. Successivamente ha conseguito la laurea in giurisprudenza presso la Marshall-Wythe School of Law del College of William and Mary nel 1987. Wright è stato ammesso alla pratica della legge in tre giurisdizioni, New York, Maryland e Washington ma, visto l'insuccesso del suo studio legale, ha deciso di lavorare come giornalista e redattore prima di avventurarsi nella scrittura di narrativa di genere. Nel recensire il suo romanzo d'esordio The Golden Age, Publishers Weekly ha dichiarato che "potrebbe essere il nuovo talento di fantascienza più importante di questo secolo appena nato".

Il romanzo Orphans of Chaosha ricevuto la nomination al Nebula Award 2005 come miglior romanzo, ma è stato battuto da Camouflage di Joe Haldeman. Sempre nel ha ricevuto cinque nomination agli Hugo Award, di cui tre nella categoria Best Novella, One Bright Star to Guide Them, The Plural of Helen of Troy, Pale Realms of Shade.Il 4 settembre 2016, il romanzo Somewhither (pubblicato da Castalia House) ha ricevuto il primo Dragon Award per il miglior romanzo di fantascienza.
