Gareth Lyn Powell, nato nel 1970 a Bristol, è uno scrittore britannico di fantascienza. Ha studiato scienze umane e scrittura creativa all'Università di Glamorgan. Ha iniziando a scrivere a scuola e dopo una serie di piccole pubblicazioni, ha venduto il suo primo racconto professionale alla rivista Interzone nel 2006. Un romanzo breve, Silversands, è apparso nel 2010 ed è stato seguito un anno dopo dal suo primo romanzo integrale The Recollection: entrambi recensiti favorevolmente su The Guardian. Ack-Ack Macaque, il capostipite dell'omonima trilogia, ha vinto il premio Miglior Romanzo ai BSFA Awards nel 2013, ed è stato finalista al Premio Seiun come Miglior Romanzo Straniero nel 2016. Embers of War ha vinto il premio come Miglior Romanzo ai BSFA Awards del 2019, ed è stato finalista al Premio Locus per il miglior romanzo di fantascienza.

Gareth Lyn Powell può anche vantare di essere stato il primo autore ad avere avuto un lavoro individuale selezionato nello stesso anno del BSFA Award nelle categorie Miglior romanzo, Miglior cortometraggio e Miglior saggistica.
